Fiona Hermse - Artisit Jeweller

About

Scottish Artist and Jeweller Fiona Hermse specialised in jewellery design at Gray's School of Art where she received first class honours before completing a Masters Degree at the renowned Birmingham School of Jewellery.

Having recently completed a Residency at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen Fiona now lives and works in the historic city of Edinburgh. She has a workshop/studio at the Arts Complex where she designs and creates all her jewellery pieces by hand often undertaking private commissions. Artistic Photography forms a large part of her work in developing the thematics of her collections.

Constantly inspired by our interaction with the natural world she is particularly fascinated by superstition and myth in nature. Recent pieces focus on ancient beliefs that the moth and butterfly embody the human soul, a concept she finds particularly poignant and beautiful.  She focuses on the wing shapes of individual species of moths, butterflies and other insects to create the pieces.

Having received several awards in recognition of her work; most recently a Creative Development Award from The Scottish Arts Council, Fiona exhibits and sells her work across the UK and Europe.

Fiona is passionate about promoting contemporary craft as a more ethical alternative to the mass-produced.
